World Premiere of Rebecca Saunders' ›Skull‹

in Cologne and Frankfurt

Rebecca Saunders, the 2019 winner of the renowned Ernst von Siemens Music Prize, presents her new work ›Skull‹ in early May. Ensemble Modern performs its world premiere on May 1 at Cologne’s Philharmonie, as part of the festival ›ACHT BRÜCKEN | Musik für Köln‹. With ›Skull‹, Rebecca Saunders completes a triptych of compositions entitled ›Skin‹, ›Scar‹ and ›Skull‹. All three will be performed in Cologne by Ensemble Modern, the soprano Juliet Fraser and the conductor Bas Wiegers. The Ensemble’s subsequent subscription concert at the Alte Oper Frankfurt on May 12 will feature ›Skull‹ alongside Georges Aperghis’ ›Hopse‹ and the world premiere of ›Over Drive‹ by Vladimir Tarnopolsky. The concert in Frankfurt is preceded by an introductory talk with Georges Aperghis and Vladimir Tarnopolsky at 7 pm.
