Ruth Crawford Seeger Portrayed
at Musikfest BerlinFrom September 13 to 15, Ensemble Modern and the Musikfest Berlin dedicate a three-concert portrait to the American composer Ruth Crawford Seeger, a pioneering figure in US modernism, at the Philharmonie Berlin. Her musical world will be juxtaposed with female contemporaries and composers active today, such as Katherine Balch, Johanna Magdalena Beyer and Tania León. During the first two concerts, larger-scale works will be performed under the baton of David Niemann; a matinee concert on Sept. 15 presents the composer’s chamber music oeuvre – in a concert dramaturgy especially conceived for the Philharmonie’s Chamber Music Hall by Hermann Kretzschmar.
