Kurt Weill’s ›The Seven Deadly Sins‹
in CologneThe Viennese conductor, composer and chansonnier HK Gruber and Ensemble Modern share a close and long-standing tradition and friendship. In April 2024, Ensemble Modern joined the Kurt Weill specialist, the Canadian mezzo-soprano Wallis Giunta and the a-cappella ensemble amarcord on tour in the USA. The Weill programme they performed there can now be heard at Cologne’s Philharmonie: the centrepiece is Weill’s ›The Seven Deadly Sins‹ in a new version for chamber ensemble. In addition to this cult piece, which thrives on foxtrot and tango rhythms, the programme also includes works by Paul Hindemith, Erich Wolfgang Korngold and Arnold Schoenberg.
